Earth Day, April 22 2011

Strong nesting instincts seem to have kicked in. In the hour we spent watching the nest, the female only left the nest twice, each time for less than one minute. The male returned with a live fish that he killed and ate. We left before he delivered the female her share.






If you look closely, you can see the fish is obviously still alive and thrashing from side to side in these photo's.

Note how the father is carrying this rather large fish.  When you consider an Osprey weights in at under 6 Lbs, this is even more impressive.
