For Canada Day, we decided to have a picnic near the Osprey nest and keep an eye on them. There was some hope (naive as it turns out) that maybe we would see one of the chicks take flight. By this stage, we had only really been studying Osprey for less than two months. In fact, we had a photo of one we took in 2009 that we did not know what it was.

Mama did flight training, low passes and hovering over the nest. There was lots of talking between her and the chicks. A great way to spend a summer's day!
We decided to try showing the kids how a dragon flies to give them encouragement.
